Gates Foundation

I previously held two roles at the Gates Foundation.

In a Strategy and Operations role, I acted as Chief of Staff for Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates on external engagements, working cross-divisionally to plan advocacy trips around the world. I especially enjoyed traveling with Bill on a three day trip to India, visiting rural farming communities, presenting at an urban philanthropy summit, and culminating in a significant visit with PM Modi.

Later, in a Communications role, I led integrated marketing campaigns and implemented a global brand refresh. My proudest achievement was running the $MM Generation Equality Forum campaign in partnership with the United Nations. The campaign garnered $40B in commitments toward Gender Equality initiatives globally and turbocharged Melinda French Gates’ profile on the global stage.

Product Launch, GTM Strategy, Integrated Marketing

  • During the pandemic, I led a product launch, go-to-market (GTM) strategy, and integrated marketing campaign for a new crowd-funding platform called PowerOf. The site and app helped raise money for teachers, healthcare workers, and community organizations in 2020-2021. I especially enjoyed connecting in-person activations (rare during the pandemic!), content-creator partnerships (the foundation’s first time!), and traditional/digital paid, owned, and earned strategy to raise millions of dollars for good causes.

Strategy, Crisis Communications, and Influence

  • It was a highlight to travel with Melinda French Gates to Africa several times, including a trip to rural Ethiopia in support of Gender Equality and a trip to Rwanda to spotlight health workers combatting tropical diseases. Both trips required working with executives and senior stakeholders internally and externally, advising on strategy and trade-offs, and informing crisis communications in real time.
